The 2016 Protecting the Past International Conference
was held between Sunday 30- Monday 31 October in Sulaimani (KRG, Iraq). It was organized
by University of Oxford Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East & North
Africa (EAMENA) Project in collaboration with the American University of Iraq,
Sulaimani (AUIS) and the Department of Archeology at University of Sulaimani.
This Conference brought together over 30 international and local experts to
explore the challenges facing Iraq’s heritage.
The conference was supported by a number of partners such as the EU Delegation to Iraq, the Barakat Trust and the Gerald Averay Wainwright Fund for Near Eastern Archaeology. The
Delegation represents the European Union in Iraq and, as a diplomatic mission,
works closely with the 13 Member State Embassies that are represented in
Baghdad as well as their Missions in Erbil, Kurdistan Region. |
