A team of students and faculty members of University of Sulaimani Law School was the first winner of the National Round and represented Iraq in the International Round of 2016 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition conducted on Mar 27, 2016 in Washington DC. Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 550 law schools in more than 80 countries. The University of Sulaimani Law School team arrived in Washington DC on Mar 26, 2016 thanks to the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil cooperation; and the team participated at the competition from Mar 27 – April 2, 2016. The Law School team of University of Sulaimani was among a group containing Law Schools of New York University, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Indonesia University and Vytautas Magnus University of Lithuania.
