Following Official Invitation by Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology University of Sulaimani President Visits Several Iranian Universities and Sign Cooperation Agreements

After receiving an official invitation from the Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, University of Sulaimani President, Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali visited the Islamic Republic of Iran on December 13th along with Presidents of four other Iraqi universities and representative of Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to attend a scientific exhibition in Tehran, meet with Acting Minister of Science, Research and Technology Prof. Dr. Hossein Salar Amoli and visit some of the advanced Iranian universities to establish academic cooperation.

On Decenber 14th Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed and other Iraqi University Presidents met with Prof. Dr. Salar Amoli and several Iranian University Presidents and representatives at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to discuss starting academic cooperation between the universities in both countries. 

The University of Sulaimani President and other Iraqi University delegates visited several Iranian universities including Sharif University of Technology which has one of the largest engineering schools in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed and other Iraqi University delegates were hosted by Dr. Fotuhi, President of Sharif University of Technology, as well as a few of the deans of different offices and heads of the departments.

The meeting was started with a brief introduction of the participants by Dr. Movaghar, dean of the international affairs office, and was continued by an introduction of Sharif University of Technology which was presented by Dr. Fotuhi, president of the university. Dr. Jahed, dean of the foreign students’ office presented his office’s activities and elaborated the details and requirements to enter Sharif University of Technology. Dr. Rashtchian, dean of graduate studies explained different departments and majors of the university. Dr. Abdekhodaie proposed 4 main methods to perform further cooperation with Iraqi Universities: Student Exchange, Workshops for Professors, Establishing New Labs and Defining Joint Projects.

Open discussions were carried out in order to find the best and most appropriate procedure to start the collaborations.

The University of Sulaimani President and other Iraqi University delegates later visited Iran University of Science and Technology (IUSC) which is one of the most developed institutions in Engineering field which is ranked among the top 500 universities in the World and its Engineering college is ranked 48 in the World.

The Iraqi universities delegates were then received by officials of University of Applied Science and Technology, Tehran and they discussed academic cooperation and preparations made to sign cooperation agreement to include establishing Dual PhD degree program between University of Sulaimani and University of Applied Science and Technology, Tehran. In this program the student will spend 2 years at each university during the PhD study.

On December 16th the University of Sulaimani President had visited an International exhibition for marketing scientific research and inventions.

Professor Dr. Salahalddin Saeed and other Iraqi universities delegates visited Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (Third University in Iran) and Imam Reza International University in Mashhad city; and met with president of both universities.

After discussing scientific cooperation, MOU were signed with both universities in Mashhad for the exchange of scientific, educational, and technological collaboration and holding joint scientific conferences.

Opening of Persian language and literature department at University of Sulaimani in collaboration with Ferdowsi University of Mashhad was also planned. According to the agreement, the Persian language center at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (one of the best in the country) will collaborate with the language center of University of Sulaimani.

At the end of the trip, Prof. Dr. Salar Amoli held a private meeting with Dr. Salahalddin Saeed and both sides discussed a visit by official delegation from Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and some University presidents to Sulaimani city and University of Sulaimani after the New Year vacation. The visit is aiming to implement the agreements, opening of two Iranian Engineering colleges in Sulaimani and holding similar scientific exhibitions at Sulaimani University.
