UNIVERSITY OF SULAIMANI PARTICIPATES AT PROJECT MANAGEMENT MEETING OF THE ERASMUS+ TIGRIS Project

University of Sulaimani as a partner of Erasmus+ TIGRIS project participated and co-organized the Project Management Meeting of Erasmus+ TIGRIS project held on Monday, 7th October 2019.

The meeting was held following the 2nd annual dissemination conference of the TIGRIS project carried out on Sunday, 6th October 2019 under the slogan “Building Internationalization Strategies for Higher Education in Kurdistan Region of Iraq“.

During the Project Management Meeting of Erasmus+ TIGRIS several important topics on progress of the project were discussed and ideas were exchanged among the partners.  

From University of Sulaimani the President of the university, Dr Ridha H. Hussein, Director of International Office, Dr Karzan Khidhir, attended the conference.

University of Sulaimani as a partner of Erasmus+ TIGRIS project participates at the 2nd annual dissemination conference of the project held on Sunday, 6th October 2019 under the slogan “Building Internationalization Strategies for Higher Education in Kurdistan Region of Iraq“.

During the conference University of Sulaimani presented a poster on developing its internationalization strategy.

From University of Sulaimani the President of the university, Dr Ridha H. Hussein, Vice-President for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr Kawa Amin, Director of International Office, Dr Karzan Khidhir, and member of implementing bologna Process, Dr Rezhen Harun attended the conference.

Dr Rezhen Harun, Head of Agribusiness and Rural Development Department at College of Agricultural Engineering at University of Sulaimani participates at the Erasmus + MASTER Food Identity Program at USAMV-Cluj in Romania as a foreign lecturer during 20 May to 4 June 2019.

A delegation from University of Sulaimani Participates at the Pedagogical Training Course at HAMK Hame University of Applied Sciences in Finland from 1 October 2018 to 15 December 2018. 

Dr Aysser Abdul Rahman and Dr Rezhen Harun from  University of Sulaimani took part at the Pedagogical Training Course at HAMK Hame University of Applied Sciences in Finland. 


  

University of Sulaimani Participates at Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Workshop and Consortium Meeting in Masaryk University

A delegation from University of Sulaimani headed by the university President Asst. Professor Dr Ridha H. Hussein and included the Director of International Academic Relations, Asst. Professor Dr Karzan G. Khidhir participated at the Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Workshop and Consortium Meeting held in Brno, Czech Republic during 24-26 June 2019.

 

University of Sulaimani along with other Kurdistan universities has taken steps towards internationalisation of their institutions.

 

The workshop’s agenda was about strategic plans for for the upcoming years for the public Kurdistan universities that participated in TIGRIS program.

 

Eight Kurdistan’s universities and the Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research participated in the TIGRIS activities with the presence of the representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. 





University of Sulaimani Students Participates at the 2nd World Congress on Undergraduate Research

A group of students from the Biology Department, College of Science of University of Sulaimani supported by the president of the university participated at the 2nd World Congress on Undergraduate Research which was held on 23-25 May 2019 at the University of Oldenburg, Germany.

The students of University of Sulaimani presented their advanced research in the 2nd World Congress on Undergraduate Research in Germany at the University of Oldenburg and their research project was about using a plant extract as an alternative to antibiotics. The University of Sulaimani project had scored highly among the projects.

Assistant Professor Dr Haider M. Hamzah, academic staff member of University of Sulaimani, has supervised the research project and accompanied the students during their participation at the 2nd World Congress on Undergraduate Research.  

Only about 217 research abstracts were invited and confirmed for the 2nd World Congress on Undergraduate Research and University of Sulaimani was the only university that participated from Kurdistan region and Iraq in this scientific event.




Christopher Merrill Presents Seminar at University of Sulaimani

Christopher Merrill presented a Seminar at University of Sulaimani on "Introducing Creative Writing to Schools VAP program" on Sunday April 28th 2019.

The seminar was organized by the US Embassy in Baghdad in cooperation with the US Consulate General-Erbil, IREX and the University of Sulaimani.

A number of English lecturers of University of Sulaimani attended the seminar which was held at the college of languages.

Christopher Merrill has published six collections of poetry, including Brilliant Water, and Watch Fire, for which he received the Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets; translations of Aleš Debeljak’s Anxious Moments and The City and the Child; several edited volumes, among them, The Forgotten Language: Contemporary Poets and Nature and From the Faraway Nearby: Georgia O’Keeffe as Icon; and five books of nonfiction, The Grass of Another Country: A Journey Through the World of Soccer, The Old Bridge: The Third Balkan War and the Age of the Refugee, Only the Nails Remain: Scenes from the Balkan Wars, Things of the Hidden God: Journey to the Holy Mountain, and The Tree of the Doves: Ceremony, Expedition, War.

His work has been translated into twenty-five languages, his journalism appears in many publications, and his awards include a knighthood in arts and letters from the French government. He has held the William H. Jenks Chair in Contemporary Letters at the College of the Holy Cross, and now directs the International Writing Program at The University of Iowa. He serves on the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, he has conducted cultural diplomacy missions in over thirty countries for the U.S. State Department, and in April 2012 President Obama appointed Merrill to the National Council on the Humanities.


University of Sulaimani Hosts Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Project Concluding Workshop WP 1

University of Sulaimani hosted the Concluding Workshop of WP 1 of the Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Project during 24-26 September 2018.

 

The Concluding Workshop of WP 1 started with opening remarks from Dr Karzan & Dr Ridha from University of Sulaimani, Dr. Uwe Muuss from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (UGOE) and Dr Pola Khanaqa from KISSR.   

 

Project Overview and Timeline (Recapitulation) was presented by Jakob Hedderich / UGOE.

 

Each Kurdish partner university presented their results of Work Package 1. The session was then followed by discussion and Planning session for implementation of WP2.

 

A Workshop on Risk Analysis was conducted by Dr. Carlos Machado, External Quality Assurance Expert for the TIGRIS Project.

 

On Tuesday, September 25th Project Management Meeting was Moderated by Dr. Uwe Muuss (UGOE). Then Report by Quality Leading Team (QLT) Dr. Uwe Brandenburg / GII and a Report by External Quality Assurance Expert Dr. Carlos Machado were presented. The session followed by an Open discussion.

 

A Workshop on Developing structures corresponding to the institutional and international strategy of universities was conducted by Dr. Uwe Muuss (UGOE).

 

On Wednesday, September 26th a Workshop on ”See your International Relations Office in action” was conducted by  Violeta Osouchová from Masaryk University.

 

During the meeting, Dr. Uwe Brandenburg as leader of the Quality Leading Team of the TIGRIS Project reported the performance of the Project Consortium in the first year of the project. Jef Schrooten from KU Leuven presented WP1 progress and issues.

 

All the partners then moved to Salahaddin Universtiy-Erbil and participated at the Annual Dissemination Conference on Thursday, September 27th.

 

The TIGRIS Project has been awarded for EU co-funding within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme “Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education”. Capacity building projects in the field of higher education support the modernisation, accessibility, and internationalisation of higher education in Partner Countries, in this case Kurdistan.

 

The TIGRIS Project, which will run for 3 years from 2017 – 2020, is coordinated by the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany. The project consortium is composed of 4 European partners and 10 Kurdish partners, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), as well as 2 associate partners.
