University of Sulaimani Hosts Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Project Concluding Workshop WP 1

University of Sulaimani hosted the Concluding Workshop of WP 1 of the Erasmus Plus TIGRIS Project during 24-26 September 2018.

 

The Concluding Workshop of WP 1 started with opening remarks from Dr Karzan & Dr Ridha from University of Sulaimani, Dr. Uwe Muuss from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (UGOE) and Dr Pola Khanaqa from KISSR.  


 

 

Project Overview and Timeline (Recapitulation) was presented by Jakob Hedderich / UGOE.

 

Each Kurdish partner university presented their results of Work Package 1. The session was then followed by discussion and Planning session for implementation of WP2.

 

A Workshop on Risk Analysis was conducted by Dr. Carlos Machado, External Quality Assurance Expert for the TIGRIS Project.

 

On Tuesday, September 25th Project Management Meeting was Moderated by Dr. Uwe Muuss (UGOE). Then Report by Quality Leading Team (QLT) Dr. Uwe Brandenburg / GII and a Report by External Quality Assurance Expert Dr. Carlos Machado were presented. The session followed by an Open discussion.

 

A Workshop on Developing structures corresponding to the institutional and international strategy of universities was conducted by Dr. Uwe Muuss (UGOE).

 

On Wednesday, September 26th a Workshop on ”See your International Relations Office in action” was conducted by  Violeta Osouchová from Masaryk University.



 

During the meeting, Dr. Uwe Brandenburg as leader of the Quality Leading Team of the TIGRIS Project reported the performance of the Project Consortium in the first year of the project. Jef Schrooten from KU Leuven presented WP1 progress and issues.


 

All the partners then moved to Salahaddin Universtiy-Erbil and participated at the Annual Dissemination Conference on Thursday, September 27th.

 

The TIGRIS Project has been awarded for EU co-funding within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme “Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education”. Capacity building projects in the field of higher education support the modernisation, accessibility, and internationalisation of higher education in Partner Countries, in this case Kurdistan.

 

The TIGRIS Project, which will run for 3 years from 2017 – 2020, is coordinated by the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany. The project consortium is composed of 4 European partners and 10 Kurdish partners, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), as well as 2 associate partners.

Undergraduate students at the University of Sulaimani who already successfully completed their first year can now apply for the Second Semester Erasmus + Mobility at UNIVERSITY OF ALMERIA in Spain until 8 November 2018.

 

The requirements for students willing to participate:

·  Must be enrolled at least in the second year of their studies

·  Should not have done more than 7 months of Erasmus + or Erasmus Mundus mobility before

·  Should hold a B1 certificate of Spanish or English proficiency

·  Must choose courses belonging to their area.


The courses offered in English are in the list disseminated by the international office which includes Agriculture, economics, accounting, finance, management, marketing and English language.

Please note that the second semester at the UNIVERSITY OF ALMERIA starts in the beginning of February 2019 and finishes in 18 June 2019 and accepted students MUST stay until they do all their exams.

Students interested in the mobility program can send their CV, proof of language proficiency and a copy their previous year/years marks to the Directorate of International Academic Relations no later than 8 November 2018.

Applications for the 2019-2021 Fulbright Foreign Student Program are being accepted now

Program Information

This prestigious scholarship program, launched by the U.S. Congress and the late U.S. Senator William J. Fulbright in 1946, allows outstanding students and professionals worldwide to study at U.S. universities to further their careers as well as promote international cultural understanding.  Here in Iraq, participation in the Fulbright Foreign Student program allows exceptional Iraqis to experience life and education in the United States first-hand.  Fulbright students also have the opportunity to share Iraq’s rich culture with Americans they meet and to serve as “student ambassadors” both in the classroom and in everyday life.

The Fulbright scholarship will fund up to two years of study at the Master’s degree level at a U.S. university starting in the fall of 2019.  All disciplines and academic fields of study are available under this program, with the exception of medicine and other clinical studies.  The program provides funding for tuition, round-trip international travel, living stipends, and health insurance.  Iraqis, both men and women from all parts of the country who have outstanding academic records and work experience are urged to apply.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must:

Be Iraqi citizens who are resident in Iraq and demonstrate a clear commitment to return to Iraq at the conclusion of their          program.

Hold a B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited institution of higher education at the time of application.

Have a minimum of two years of work experience after graduation.

Write their research objective and personal statement themselves, without copying from the Internet or any other source.  Such copying is considered plagiarism and will result in applicant’s immediate disqualification.

Most graduate degree programs in the United States will require a minimum score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL exam. Preferred candidates will be capable of achieving such a score. Candidates who are selected after application review will be required to take ITP TOEFL as part of the selection process.  Candidates who are selected after interviews will be required to take TOEFL and GRE to gain admission to a U.S.  university.  Test fees will be covered by the program.

All disciplines and academic fields of study are available under this program, with the exception of medicine and other clinical studies. The only medical fields that you can apply for are Neuroscience, Public Health, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychology and Social Work.  Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, or Nursing cannot be covered by Fulbright Foreign Student Program. Iraq Fulbright scholarships fund a maximum of two years.  Degrees in the fields mentioned above cannot be completed within a two-year time frame and involve clinical components or patient interaction which is not allowed under J-1 visa regulations.

وەزارەتى خوێندنى باڵا و توێژینەوەى زانستى فەرمانبەرانی سەر بە وەزارەتی خوێندنی باڵا و توێژینەوەی زانستی ئاگادار دەکات، کە وڵاتى ژاپۆن دوو سکۆلەرشیپى خوێندن لە بواری (Infrastructure Management Program) بۆ خوێندنى باڵا/ ماستەر پێشکەش بە هەرێمی کوردستان کردوە.

بۆیە خوازیاران ئاگادار دەکات، ئەوانەى مەرجەکانیان تێدایە، لەماوەى دیاریکراودا لە ڕێگەى بەستەرى تایبەت کە لە خوارەوە دانراوە، فۆرمى پێشکەشکردن پڕبکەنەوە.

مەرجەکان:

  1. پێشکەشکار دەبێت  فەرمانبەر بێت لە دەزگا و دامەزراوەکانى سەر بە وەزارەتی خوێندنی باڵا و توێژینەوەی زانستی لە هەرێمی کوردستان.

  6. داواکار دەبێت لە هەمان بواری خۆی داواکاری بۆ بەرنامەی ماستەر پێشکەش بکات. (واتا بەکالۆریۆس و ماستەرەکەی لە هەمان بوار بێت.)
  7. کاندیدی سەرکەوتو ئەگەر دامەزرا بێت، ئەوا لە لایەن وەزارەتەکەمان تەنها مۆڵەتی خوێندنی پێدەدرێت، واتا بە موچەی بنەڕەتی و دەرماڵە جێگیرەکان.

THE BASIC AUAP’S CRITERIA OF RECRUITMENT ARE LISTED BELOW:

1. Member institution nominating their candidates must be (i.e. has paid membership  fees for the year 2017-2020).

2. New Active Member (4 years membership fee payment; 2017- 2020)

3. Each member can nominate 1-2 candidates.

4. Nominating institution must follow the following:

 4.1 Research Proposals of at least 450-500 words 

4.2 Submit an application (attached), photo and brief introduction of each candidate.


THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES, TO BE NOMINATED FROM AUAP MEMBER INSTITUTIONS ARE

1. Holder of a Master degree

2. Grade point average must be reasonably high

3. Submit research proposals (450- 500 words)

4. Letter of recommendation from AUAP

5. Has good health (Medical Certificate is required)





The Scholarships cover:

1. Tuition fee

2. Accommodation

3. Monthly allowance of 3,000 RMB per month

Remarks: The scholarship does not cover the air ticket, personal expenses,

 visa fee, insurance.



Results:

1st batch results by March 1, 2018 (50 Scholarships)

2nd batch by September 30, 2018 (50 Scholarship)

ZU will  coordinate directly to each candidate for the formal invitation to              apply for a visa after applicant is accepted.

The Academic Year starts in early March and November 2018

About LASER


The United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) U.S. Global Development Lab seeks a five year cooperative

agreement with a Higher Education Institution (HEI) to establish and leverage a strong international network to help solve

pressing development challenges through research. The resulting Long-term Assistance and Services for Research (LASER)

network will work in partnership with USAID to engage academics and stakeholders in identifying and refining critical

development research questions. LASER will fund research projects that address those questions so that the entire research

system - from universities to policy-makers and civil society - can engage, educate, and contribute to the success of the

research projects towards achieving development impacts. Additionally, LASER will increase the human and institutional

capacity of higher education institutions in low and middle-income countries to become global leaders in research. The

resulting LASER network will not only generate new knowledge for USAID, but also initiate long term, sustainable

collaborations between U.S. and developing country institutions that are characterized by equitable university partnerships.

Through LASER, USAID strives to engage with global university partners, leading to a connected global research network

focused on development challenges, and stakeholders that are better equipped to use research to further their country’s

Eligibility

Only HEIs are eligible to serve as the lead implementer, however consortium applications that include other organizations (eg,

NGOs, private sector) are welcome as long as the lead applicant is an HEI. USAID specifically seeks to support a university

whose operations includes the creation, engagement, and/or growth of a large, international network of university researchers,

centers, and institutes across disciplines that can 1) independently identify and address new and impactful research questions

with high relevance to the international development community, 2) partner with USAID Missions, Bureaus, and Independent

Offices to address unique research needs identified by USAID, and 3) provide opportunities to work with and build up

individual and institutional capacity of HEIs and their communities in low and middle-income countries.
